What is the role of the Office of the Chief Nursing Officer?

The Chief Nursing Officer provides strategic direction for nursing and midwifery in Western Australia. The purpose of the Office is to promote and develop the Western Australian nursing and midwifery professions to ensure the delivery of quality nursing and midwifery care to the community.

The Office of the Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for leadership, advice, information and guidance on all issues relating to the nursing and midwifery professions in WA. The Office leads innovation in nursing and midwifery policy and practice to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. This involves working in partnership and collaboration with nurses and midwives, consumers, healthcare-related industries, education providers and key stakeholders to deliver knowledgeable nursing and midwifery care.

The nursing workforce branch provides dedicated, expert advice on professional related aspects of the nursing and midwifery workforce. The branch initiates, develops and monitors workforce policy and strategic plans to develop a sustainable nursing and midwifery workforce.
